SPRINGFIELD, IL – Alvin R. "Sonny" Nelson, beloved husband of Judy, passed away on October 24, 2018, at 2:48 p.m.

Alvin was born on July 12, 1941, in Springfield. He married Judy on March 14, 1970. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnora Holt; step-daughter, Sharon Day; father, Alvin Wiley; and step-father, Henry Jackson.

Sonny worked for the Secretary of State for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; step-daughter, Linda (Adell) Means; nephew, LaMonte (Marjorie) McPike; granddaughters, Whitney (Kareem) and Monique Burnes; and two great-granddaughters.

Family and friends are welcome at a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018, at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Deacon Marshall Brown officiating.
