SPRINGFIELD – Barbara Jeanne McCormick, 89, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 18, 1934 to Chester and Ruth (Engele) Sweet. She married Dareld Kidd in 1955 and he preceded her in death in 1978. Barbara married Robert McCormick in 1983 and he preceded her in death in 2012. She was also preceded by her parents; and sisters, Lorraine Bitzenhofer and Frances Elaine Sweet.

Barbara had worked as a nurse at a hospital in Casper, Wyoming. She was a member of West Side Christian Church where she belonged to the Quilting Bee. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and eggery.

She is survived by her sons, Lance (Lisa) Kidd and Steven Kidd; stepchildren, David (Ellen) McCormick, Becky McCormick (Rich Cummings), Sue (Chuck) Compton and Dan (Sue) McCormick; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; half-brother, Paul Sweet; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Mike Harney officiating. Inurnment will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
