SPRINGFIELD – Bernadine Lynne Stoddard, 74, passed away Monday, July 6, 2026.

Bernie was born May 15, 1952, in Springfield, the daughter of Otto W. and Barbara J. (Slusser) Krone.

She graduated from Girard High School. She retired from Illinois Bell/AT&T and volunteered at St. John's Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; parents, Otto and Barbara; brothers-in-law, Gary Cooper and Ron DeFrates; sister-in-law, Paula Krone; and nephews Tim DeFrates and Matt Krone.

She is survived by siblings, Janet Cooper, Kathleen DeFrates, Keven (Darlene) Krone and Don Krone; nephews, Kyle (Lisa) Krone, Will Krone and Gary Cooper; nieces, Kim (Paul) Files and Shannon Cooper; and great-nephews, Jacob Files, Alex Krone and Colin Reese.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Pastor Lonna Lee officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Chatham Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will follow in Chapman Point Oak Grove Cemetery in Modesto.

Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League or Chatham Presbyterian Church.
