SPRINGFIELD – Bernard E. Ferree, 76, passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home.

He was born December 14, 1949, to James and Daleine Joie (Conn) Ferree, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clay Carter; and sister, Joy Anne Carter.

Bernard was a US Army veteran serving as a combat medic in the Vietnam War. He was a union carpenter for most of his career. He had a green thumb and loved his plants, especially his tangerine tree.

He is survived by his children, Sydonia Bales (Brian) and Robert Ferree (Shelby); grandchildren, Brian, Zachary, Alexandria, Brock, Serenity, Gabriel; Emmaleigha, Adayah, Chase, Bentley, Brielle and Koby; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Braxton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 10:45 a.m. until the time of service at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Brandy Black officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
