SPRINGFIELD – Bette Jean Dysart was called home at the age of 79 to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at her son’s home after a long-time illness and declining health.

She was born in Alton Illinois on July 22, 1947, to Ford Modes and Dorcas (Hoke) Modes. She was a widow for 39 years after the passing of her husband Michael C. Dysart; he preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Modes.

Bette was a faithful member of Cherry Hills Church and a follower of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. She was proud to speak to friends, family and strangers about what the Lord has done for all of us. She loved studying and reading the Bible, Gods Spoken Word, and loved writing letters of encouragement, cards of endearment for any occasion and letters of gratitude to everyone she encounters. She loved mysteries and crime dramas, and her favorites were Columbo, Murder She Wrote and Sherlock Holmes. Bette was a life changing person. Strangers, friends and family have testimonies about life-changing interactions they had with Bette. She was an Angel from God to do his works, a true servant to her husband, children, family and friends. She was kind and loving with everyone she met.

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” ( Matthew 14:2). Have peace mom and enjoy your new life with your King and Lord.

She is survived by her children, Jonathan Dysart and Jennifer Coffin. Her Son-in-law, Shaun Coffin, whom she loved like a son. Her grandchildren, Madison and Ava Coffin. Her sister, Patricia Garrett and her husband Micheal Garrett. Their children; her niece Zabrina Love and nephew, Patrick Garrett. Her brother, Byron Modes; niece, Zabrina Modes. Her sister (deceased) Nancy Modes and nephew Charles Oth.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Cherry Hills Church, 2125 Woodside Road, Springfield, IL. A luncheon will immediately follow. Family and friends are invited to the graveside service at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 12 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.
