SPRINGFIELD - Bona Marie Kollars, 71, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Lakeside Health and Rehab in Carlinville.

She was born in Chicago on January 24, 1955, the daughter of Harold R. and Marie (Dalton) Kollars, both of whom preceded her in death.

Bona was a graduate of Blackburn College in Carlinville graduating with a BA in education for grades K through 12. Upon her graduation from Blackburn College, she moved to Springfield where she became the director of a Christian daycare for several years. Prior to that, she was briefly employed at Famous Barr. She received training and employment at the State of Illinois, first as a computer programmer, then as a computer analyst, working in the Department of Human Services for over 25 years until her retirement. She traveled for the State of Illinois conducting training classes all over the state.

In addition to her successful career with the State of Illinois, Bona had numerous hobbies and interests, some of which included photography, quilting, tie-dying fabrics, fabric art, sewing, extensive travel, sign language, gourmet cooking, and extensive reading. Bona frequently sold her creations at various local craft fairs under the business name "Clouds of Joy." Bona also enjoyed hot air balloon festivals and Chihuly glass exhibits. Bona treasured her trip to Hawaii with her Aunt Barb, and the cruise to Alaska. She also treasured many peaceful, refreshing solo trips to Door County, Michigan.

Bona had a smile for everyone she met, even in her final years, when she bravely endured many physical challenges. What sustained Bona through every challenge and obstacle was her steady faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her life shone for Jesus and exemplified the love of Christ with everyone she met. She was always ready to give to every need and pray for those who were hurting. She loved Jesus, and she loved everyone she met with all her heart, and she greatly loved her two feline companions, Sarrie and Souchong, who I'm sure, were there to greet Bona when she arrived in heaven.

Bona will be greatly missed by those who loved her, especially her Aunt Barb, who meant so much to Bona and her many friends and those special caregivers who helped Bona have an excellent quality of life in her final years. She will be especially missed by her long-time friend and sister-in-Christ, partner in crime and many adventures, ex-"roomie", Linda.

To all who have given their life to Jesus Christ, Bona would above all "wish you Jesus" more than anything. It's never goodbye, it's see you later and forever, in glory! Forever with the Lord!
