SPRINGFIELD – Brenda K. Whiteman, 66, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. John's Hospital.

She was born on March 26, 1958, to Wilbur and Faye (Sample) Rankins, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Larry Whiteman on August 17, 2013, in Sherman.

As a teenager, Brenda worked at Steak and Shake with her mother. She began her career with Franklin Life and later retired from Horace Mann. She was an amateur writer and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially creating beaded jewelry. She loved to cook and watch Food Network. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Gabrielle Melcher; sister, Faye Roberts; brother, Larry (Becky) Rankins and nieces and nephews, Crystal, April, Ryan, Diana, Gina and Debby.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Reverend James A. Stuenkel officiating.
