SPRINGFIELD - Bruce Fenimore, 85 and 5/6ths, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at his home.

Bruce was born at home on the family farm in East Peru, Iowa, on September 30, 1940, to Clair and Ruth (Abbott) Fenimore. He married Chris Curtis on July 28, 1962, in Aurora, IL.

Bruce graduated from Iowa State University in 1962 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Bruce specialized in computer operations at Square D Company in Peru, IN for 20 years. He retired in 2002 after a 20+ year career in the Illinois State Police Forensic Sciences Division in Springfield, IL. He was a 32nd degree, 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Peru, IN. An active member at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, IL and of the Mayflower Society, he loved reading and refinishing antiques. Blessed with the gift of perfect pitch, he played trumpet, organ and harmonica. A lifelong music lover, he played “Taps” for veterans in his youth. Known for his dry wit and humor, he was a fierce competitor in card and word games, never giving up a game willingly regardless of the age of the opponent. After retirement, he spent much of his time volunteering at church, Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and as a driver for St. John’s Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Chris; daughters, Sharon Caprio, Susan Daniel (Scott) and Sarah Fenimore (Donghwan Son); grandchildren, Nicholas and Christine Caprio, Steven (Shelby) Daniel, and Andrew and Benjamin Fenimore; sister, Janet Gaspari (Richard, deceased); brother, Charles Lee “Chuck” (Bonnie); brothers-in-law, John Curtis (Susan), Bill Curtis (Paula) and Phil Curtis (Chris Webb); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in law; and sister-in-law, Pam Shier.

Private family inurnment will be in Peru Cemetery, Iowa. A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. 7th Street, Springfield, Illinois.
