SPRINGFIELD – Carol J. Aarup, 84, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at her home.

She was born June 26, 1938 to Frank and Flossie (Lee) Gille. She married John E. Aarup on October 20, 1962 in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sally Gille; brother-in-law, Billie Joyner; and nephew, Mike Gille.

Carol was a member of South Side Christian Church. She was a graduate of Lanphier High School. She worked in the Business Department of the State Journal-Register, retiring in 2004 after 30 years of service.

She is survived by her children, John E. Aarup II, Erik M. Aarup, Clarissa Hull and Edna Brownlee; siblings, Jim (Janet) Gille and Mary F. Joyner; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Larry Hanson officiating. Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
