Obituary

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Carol Ann Hopkins, 71, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

She was born in Litchfield on May 21, 1949, to Adrian K. and Christine (Sweeney) Fritzsche. She married Joseph D. Hopkins on September 9, 1995. He preceded her in death in 2020. Her father Adrian, brother, Dennis, and sister, Kathy (Keating), also preceded her in death.

An incredibly hard worker, Carol retired from the Illinois Department of Public Health and was currently employed with the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland. Her constant positive attitude and infectious laugh enabled her to easily make friends everywhere she went. Though she was often fashionably late, no one ever seemed to mind, especially when she arrived with one of her award-winning pies in hand. Carol was a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a steadfast sister, a caring aunt, a loyal friend, and an indulgent dog mom. She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family.

She is survived by her mother, Christine Fritzsche; siblings, Kenneth (Suzanne) Fritzsche, Joan (Michael) Klaus, James Sweeney, Jeanne Johnson, Catherine (Joe) Doyle, Diane (Rick) Lorenzen, Debbie (Chris) Lydon, Tim (Jan) Fritzsche, and Kevin (Julie) Fritzsche; sister-in-law, Sally Fritzsche; brother-in-law, James Keating; step-children, Michael (Karry) Patrick and Michele Hopkins; step-grandchildren, Timothy Lightner, Jr. and Anna Lane; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Cabrini Catholic Church, Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Animal Protective League or Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
