SPRINGFIELD – Charlene K. Powell, 74, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at her home.

She was born May 17, 1948 to William and Luella (Bartens) Merrill. She married Elmer Powell in Springfield on August 31, 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill.

Charlene retired from the State of Illinois EPA. She was a proud sports mom and devoted volunteer at Laketown Elementary and Franklin Middle Schools. She will be remembered most for being a loving, thoughtful and generous woman.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer; children, David (Melissa) Powell and Darlene Powell (Tyler Herring); granddaughter, Lilith; sister, Diane (Bob) Wingert; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held 4 – 6 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.
