SPRINGFIELD – Cheryl Lynn (Rice) Neal, 78, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. John's Hospital.

Born on June 28, 1946, to Frank and Mary "Dolly" (Kalaher) Rice, Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Rice. She married Thomas Neal on May 15, 1965, in Litchfield.

Cheryl dedicated 35 years of service to the State of Illinois before retiring. Cheryl served as a speech writer under Illinois governors Dan Walker and James Thompson. She had a passion for cooking and designing floral arrangements, and she cherished Christmas and spending time with her family.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Tom; her children Craig (Michelle) Neal and Colleen (Kent) Martin; grandchildren Caitlin, Jessica, Sarah, Julia, Kobe, and Kyler; and great-grandchildren Evelyn and Adalyn.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Springfield Motor Boat Club.
