Obituary

Darren Scott Polk, age 62, of Springfield, passed tragically in the early morning hours of September 27, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Born on September 1, 1964, his journey began as the second son of Mary (Neavill) and Daniel Polk of Pana. The baby of the family, Darren grew up in Manteno with his older sister, Monica and older brother, Danny. All three siblings enjoyed a close relationship and loved bantering back and forth whenever they were together.

Darren’s personal life was filled with love and partnership when he married the love of his life, Dawn Kelly on December 24, 1998, in Lake Mary, Florida. After over 14 years of companionship, Dawn passed away on September 27, 2012.

Darren was preceded in death by his father, two beloved dogs, Lexie and Dakota, and his wife’s cat, Soxx.

Mourning his passing are his mother, Mary Jane (Polk) Murphy of Springfield; his sister, Monica Posing (partner, Kevin Toler) of Manteno, and his brother, Daniel Polk of Springfield.

Darren worked for a time as a carpet stretcher and held various other jobs. Later in life, he worked on the dock at United Parcel Service (UPS) and for DoorDash in Springfield.

While Darren could be gruff, his caring heart meant he could not say no to anyone who needed help. He often kept vehicles in working order for friends and family. He was loyal and devoted to those he loved. His generous heart meant he enjoyed performing acts of service to show his love and appreciation.

His colorful sense of humor and quick smile were his trademark. If Darren called you anything but your given name, it meant he loved you. His talent for making others feel cared for will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Darren enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing video games, cooking, and spending time with his family, friends, and beloved pets.

Cremation rites were accorded by Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home of Springfield. A Celebration of Life will be held later.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
