SPRINGFIELD, IL – David D. Austin, 84, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 11, 1934 in Island Grove Township to Ivan and Iva (Tucker) Austin. He married Pat Rising on September 14, 1984, in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ivan; sisters, Wilma and Helen and step-mother, Maudlee Austin.

David was a US Navy veteran. He retired from GM&O Railroad in 1985 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Navy Club Ship 32, AMVETS and VFW Post 10302. He was an avid bowler and an enthusiastic Phillies fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and had an obsession with collecting clocks.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Ron Austin; daughter, Sherry Austin Upton; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin, Raymond and Jim Austin; sisters, Lola Charlene Vono and Cheryl Thrasher; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Farmington Cemetery at Farmingdale.
