ASHLAND – Dennis A. Hooker, 75, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his home.

He was born December 20, 1947, to Earl S. and Dorothy M. (Robinson) Hooker. He married Deborah Harris on September 2, 1995, in Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Michael; and sister, Carol.

Dennis retired from the US Army as Staff Sergeant after 22 years of service. He served in Vietnam and Germany as a helicopter crew chief. During his time served, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Aircraft Crewman Badge, The Air Medal, The Air Medal First thru Eighth Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal (First and Second Awards), Overseas Service Bars (2) and Service Stripes (2).

Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post 0498 in Ashland. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church during the tenures of Pastors Richard Brady and David Brady. He loved being on the water and especially loved boating and taking cruises.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; brothers, Timothy, Kevin (Judine), Kerry and Matthew Hooker; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Reverend David Brady officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
