MECHANICSBURG – Donald Franklin Melton, 67, passed away in the loving arms of his youngest son, Jacob, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 21, 1955 to Preston and Ruth Ann (Deckard) Melton. He married Deborah Word on June 28, 1980 at St. Aloysius Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Nickolas and Brandon.

Don was previously employed by C&I Railroad. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Jacob Melton; six grandchildren; sister, Debra Buscher; brother, David (Karen) Melton; and several nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time.
