Dec 29, 1952 — Oct 22, 2024
Riverton
RIVERTON – Donald Lee Sloper, Sr., 71, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Country Lane Memory Care.
He was born December 29, 1952 to Frank and Ethel (Shiffer) Sloper. He married Mary Beth Foster on November 13, 1970. His parents, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
Don was a loving father and husband who was beloved by those closest to him. An active member of his community, Don served as board member for the Village of Riverton and Clearlake Township. He was an avid angler who enjoyed sharing the bounty of his catches with his family and friends at his fish fries. When he was not busy fishing, he spent his free time working on his many classic muscle cars, MOPARS in particular. Several of Don's cars were photographed and chronicled in national automobile publications.
Don retired in 2008 as Chief of Staff for the Sangamon County Clerk's Office. Before going into public service, he spent 12 years as a butcher, working first for his father-in-law at Ciota and Foster Meats and Poultry, and later as sole proprietor of Foster Grand Meats.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; sons, Donald L. (Kelley) Sloper Jr. and Timothy J. (Jennifer) Sloper; granddaughters, Kylie (partner, Matt) and Raegan Sloper; and great-granddaughter, Maeve Standish.
Private family services will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
