SHERMAN, IL – Galen L. Becker, 66, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born February 15, 1953, to Elden and Sara (Fraley) Becker, both of whom preceded him in death.

Galen began his career with the Illinois State Police in 1977 as a telecommunicator at District 9 Springfield. He held many positions during his career. He was LEADS Field Specialist and traveled all over the state teaching officers and telecommunicators, from both ISP and Local departments. He helped with the development and design of LEADS 2000 and the accompanying Computer Based Training. He retired in December 2002.

Before joining ISP, Galen worked as a police officer at Jerome PD and Leland Grove PD. He also worked for the Sangamon County Jail. After retiring from ISP, Galen worked as a telecommunicator at the University of Illinois at Springfield PD. Finally, he ended his career as a training coordinator for Sangamon County Central Dispatch System.

Galen is survived by his wife, Dianna; daughters, Lindsey Becker and Samantha (John) Klecyngier; two grandchildren, Henry and Evelyn; brother, Brian (Mary) Becker; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2019, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Reverend Milton Bost and Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
