SPRINGFIELD, IL – Gary F. Buchanan, 78, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born March 4, 1942, to Frank and Arah (Hawks) Buchanan. He married Margaret McGlothlin in 1977 in Havana. She preceded him in death. He later married Doris Hillis.

Gary retired from the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health. He was a member of the ANSAR Temple and Loami Lodge 450 AF&M.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Edward Scott and Dianna (Rob) Williams; step-daughters, Anita, Cindy and Laura; brothers, Terry and David (Bobbie) Buchanan; grandchildren, Heather, Wesley and Tiffany Lane and Bobby Williams; great-grandson, Oliver; nieces, Candy Buchanan Prose, Sarah and Izzy Buchanan; nephew, Connor Buchanan; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 12:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pastor Don Goodenow will officiate.
