Obituary

George R. Keller, 92, passed away December 16, 2020 in Springfield.  George Keller was born December 26, 1927 in Oblong, Illinois to parents Sylvia Coulter Keller and Glenn F. Keller. George moved to Humboldt, Illinois following his mother's death and father's marriage to Loyola Good. At Humboldt High School athletic George played on the varsity basketball, football and baseball teams. There he also met Marjorie Edgar, the love of his life, whom he married in 1948.

The couple moved to Springfield, and George began working for the Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPSCO).  Their only child, daughter Gema, was born in Springfield. George remained with CIPSCO his entire 42 year working life, retiring as Manager of their Central Storeroom.

Away from work, George enjoyed a variety of sports. He was an expert pistol marksman , participating in national competitions and achieving the Lifetime Master ranking. He was also a hunter, traveling to Colorado to hunt deer and elk, sometimes even in winter. George also loved fishing with Marjorie at Springfield's Lake Press Club, in Colorado a nd in Alaska. During family (tent) camping trips, George, Marjorie and Gema visited all 50 States except for Hawaii . As an avid bowler, he bowled twice weekly on area teams and bowled four 300 perfect score games.

George was preceded in death by his parents, all of his 10 siblings, and by his wife Marjorie. He leaves his daughter Gema (Albert Klein), grandchildren David (Penny) and Krista, and great grandchildren Ethan, Aubree, AJ and Abigail, sisters-in-law Lori Keller and Betty Keller, nephews Rob (Diane), Randy (Mindy) and Kevin Keller. Tom Papp, nieces Deb Clark and Doris Defries and great nieces and nephews. We want to thank special friends Phil and Sally Kimmel for their help and care for George (and Marjorie) .

Daddio's wry humor, corny jokes and love of puns and his unforgettable worthy of a bakery Christmas cookies will be missed by us all.

Due to the heightened Covid-19 pandemic conditions in Illinois, no public viewing will take place.  The family plans to have a Celebration of George Keller's life as soon as friends and family can once again gather safely.

George will be interred alongside Marjorie in Humboldt Cemetery at 10 am on Monday, December 21, 2020.
