George Edward Stone, 76, of Spaulding, passed away on August 22, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Springfield, he was the son of Leo and Joan (Roberts) Stone. He married the love of his life, Diane Kay (McAfee) Stone, on December 17, 1977.

A proud graduate of Riverton High School, George retired from the State of Illinois where he worked as a computer analyst. He was a man of many interests—woodworking, building 3 D metal models, tinkering, camping, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and vacationing in Steamboat Springs, CO. He had a special fondness for his miniature schnauzers, Killer and Katie, who preceded him in death, and his current dog, 2 year old Toby, who brought him joy every day.

George is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Jason Stone of Riverton and Corey (Alyssa) Stokes of Riverton; grandchildren, Wyatt Stone and Skyler Stokes; siblings, Jim (Jane) Stone of Riverton, Chuck Stone of Riverton, Eric (Jennifer) Stone of Spaulding, Sara (Nelson) Fernandez of Miami, FL, sister in law, Diana Stone of Springfield, sister in law, Kris McAfee of Steamboat Springs, CO, brother in law, Dwain (Rhonda) McAfee of Pana, and sister in law, Denise Downs of Pana; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Mel and Brenda Reinders of Austin, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phil Stone; sister-in-law, Gayla Stone; brother in law, Delmar McAfee; and brother in law, Jim Downs.
