SPRINGFIELD, IL – Gina Benedict, 49, of Springfield, died in her home on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Gina was born on September 15, 1972, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Bonnie Bugg McPherson and Larry Benedict. She lived in Springfield, southern Illinois, and Quincy, Florida.

Gina graduated from Springfield Southeast High School. She attended John A. Logan College where she was licensed as an IV infusion specialist. She was also proudly certified as an ophthalmic assistant for 26 years.

Gina lived for her two sons and loved nothing more than being their mom. She had a knack for making others laugh and smile. She was a master of customer service and had many loyal patients. She had an affinity for animals and always shared her home with at least one rescued pet. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, shopping, reading, traveling, and playing games.

Gina is survived by her two sons, John Dylan Ketchum and Will Gregory Khayyat, both of Springfield; dad, Larry Benedict and step-sister Amy (Jeffrey) Rushing, both of Quincy, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her mom and step-dad, Bonnie and Tom "Mac" McPherson; and brother, Adam Benedict.

A memorial gathering will be held 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2022, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.
