SPRINGFIELD – Greta A. Bond, 77, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at St. John's Hospital.

She was born in Alton on January 14, 1946. She was the daughter of Forrest and Mary (Higgins) Nelson. She was preceded in passing by a daughter, Gaylene; and a sister, Mari Zimmerman.

Greta was formerly employed by St. John's Hospital for 30 years. She loved playing Scrabble and reading inspirational books. She cherished time spent with her family and was most known for her kindness and generosity to people in need.

She is survived by her children, Brian Bond, Eric Bond, Celine (Allen) Chastain and Karlene Bond; grandchildren, Zachary Bond, Cody Bond, DeAngelo Thompson and Tyreese Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Auriella, Elliana and Judah.

A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with the Very Reverend Brian Alford officiating. Private family inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
