SPRINGFIELD, IL – Harry D. Rimbey, 95, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born November 23, 1925, to Harry H. and Mabel (Jones) Rimbey. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and five sisters.
Harry was a proud US Army veteran serving in WWII with the 26 th Infantry as Staff Sergeant from 1944 to 1946. He was a proud participant of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. He was a 1951 graduate of University of Illinois with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was chairman of the board of Calhoun County Contracting Corporation for over 50 years and Metro East Sand, Inc. He was past president of Association of General Contractors of Illinois from 1979 to 1980. Harry was considered an icon in the heavy highway construction industry in the state of Illinois. He was a Mason and Shriner, member of Springfield Motor Boat Club, and an avid Fighting Illini and Cincinnati Reds fan.
He is survived by his children, Bruce (Sue) Rimbey, Janet (Joe) McLay and Deb (Allen) Bonini; grandchildren, Erin (Josh) Smith, Molly McLay (Barry Bradlyn), Abby (John) Curran, Melanie (Brett) Klein, Rachel Bonini and Michael Bonini; great-grandchildren, Marley Smith, Sawyer Smith, Connor Curran and Emme Curran; sister, Cynthia Gutmann; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Murrayville United Methodist Church with Reverend Gifty Roberts Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow in Murrayville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Murrayville United Methodist Church or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
