SPRINGFIELD, IL – Helen G. Chism, 97, passed away Monday, December 9, 2019, at Heritage Health.

She was born May 5, 1922, to Albert R. and Lucy Marie (Beam) Hays. She married Andrew Chism in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, James Robert Chism; daughter, Judy K. White; and brothers, Paul, Oscar Orville, Floyd Wayne, Clinton Edward and Robert Hays and sister, Mary Pauline Doolen.

Helen worked as a bookkeeper at Bloomington Federal Savings & Loan, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Erickson; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Pam Mitcham officiating.

A procession to the gravesite will leave from the main gate of Oak Ridge Cemetery on Monument Avenue at 10:25 a.m.
