SPRINGFIELD, IL – Henry Dean Hughs, 83, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at St. Joseph's Home.
He was born April 6, 1937 to Henry A. and Violet (Mohler) Hughs. He married Beverly Mendenhall on June 1, 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary Baker.
Dean was a farmer, a truck driver, a business owner, a father, uncle, cousin, friend. He was proud of the cattle he raised, he traveled the USA as a truck driver, could give directions to almost anywhere in the Midwest, was elected to be the road commissioner of Island Grove Township for a season, was recycling before it was in vogue, built semi trailers to haul oversized loads, and was constantly making something out of used materials. He was an artist, loved country music, and shared stories and laughter with many friends and family members. He was a member of South Side Christian Church for several decades, but transferred to West Side Christian Church in later years to attend worship services with his children and their families.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Kim (Don) Schwanke and Kevin (Caren) Hughs; grandchildren, Joseph (Rachel) Hughs and Noah Hughs; sisters, Judy Powell and Irene Hughs; brother-in-law, Allen (Barb) Mendenhall; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held with burial at Farmington Cemetery in Farmingdale.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Side Christian Church.
