ASHLAND – James L. Harris, 94, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at his home.

He was born September 9, 1930 to Jesse Willard and Edith (Hudson) Harris. He married Betty Lou Mitchell on November 8, 1953, at Wesley United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death in 2019. He was also preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Hooker; and brothers, Charles Harris and Jesse Harris.

Jim proudly served in US Navy 1951-1955 and was honorably discharged at rank of Petty Officer First Class Gunners Mate aboard the USS Salem.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheri (Steve) Moore; granddaughters, Kristin Dyer and Deanna Kramer; great-grandchildren, Ava and Brosnan Kramer; brother, Ronald Lee Harris; sisters-in-law, Virginia "Tiny" Morgan, Ivajean Mitchell and Marie Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Pastor Dave Brady officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
