Obituary

CHATHAM, IL – James Andrew Mayes, 48, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at his home.

He was born July 16, 1970, to Ruben and Imelda (Kremitzki) Mayes, both of whom preceded him in death.

James was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom in the First Calvary Division. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from the American Military University in West Virginia.  He was a sergeant with Department of Corrections in Jacksonville. He was a member of Cathedral Church of St. Paul, V.F.W. Post 732 and AMVETS. He loved biking, the outdoors, riding horses and off-roading in his jeep. Most of all, he loved his children. He died way too young and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Hibdon; children, Elizabeth Catherine Mayes and James Andrew Mayes, Jr.; step-daughters, Anna and Isabella Robertson; siblings, George Mayes and Carla Boyce; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
