OCALA, FL – James Edward Neal, 87, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Lodge Health and Rehab in Ocala.

He was born in Paris, Illinois, on April 21, 1939, to Cecil and Opal (Vandevanter) Neal. He married Carol Provines on May 27, 1994. She preceded him in death in 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff; and brother, Ronnie.

Jim retired from truck driving for Ryder/ABF. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage working on small motors and also enjoyed watching baseball and basketball.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Louise) Neal; daughter, Tracy (Tim) Cross; step-children, Denise Hubbs, Kenny Kessinger, Dante Wynn and Paul (Nancy) Lore; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Neal; sisters, Janice Edwards and Wanda Neal; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 12 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
