James Russell "Russ" McAfee, Sr., 90, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1931, to Raleigh and Ora (Dermint) McAfee. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dan, George, Harold, Lillian Heimgartner, Bob, Leroy and Charles; son, Lance Edward McAfee; sisters-in-law, Betty, Eileen, Rose and Jeanette; and brother-in-law, Robert Heimgartner.

Russ was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was owner of McAfee Siding and Roofing and he enjoyed auctions, fishing and poker.

He is survived by Betty McAfee; his children, Fred (Tammy), Jim (Cathy), Raymond (Kathy), Randy (Carrie Balderson), Tammy McAfee Knotts (Russ Helm); twelve grandchildren, Ali and Amanda McAfee, Jeremy, Sam, and Sydney McAfee, Ian and Eli McAfee, Hayley McAfee, Ashleigh and Mackenzie Knotts, Christinna (Daniel) McMillan and Cory (Natasha) Melcher; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald McAfee; sisters-in-law, Josephine McAfee and Patricia McAfee and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Dyslexia Center of Springfield or charity of choice.
