John David Bacon, 88, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 26, 1937 to Leon and Ruth (Jones) Bacon in Tinley Park, Illinois. He married Lee E. Ripley on September 8, 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Dolores Springer, Robert Bacon, Patricia Bridge; stepdaughter, Brenda Pusch; and many nieces and nephews.

John worked as a distributor for the 7UP Bottling Company, owned and operated his own automotive service station, was a security officer at the Holiday Inn East, and worked at various automotive service stations throughout Springfield along with other entrepreneurial endeavors. He volunteered his time, labor and resources at community gardens, enjoyed working in his yard and tinkering with things to see how they worked.

John and Lee had many dogs during their time together; most recently, his beloved dog, Dash, who was waiting for him at the rainbow bridge. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, getting together for conversation, fellowship and good food, especially the sweets. He loved his pies, cakes, cookies and ice cream.

He is survived by his siblings, Howard Bacon, Vivian (Arthur) Blazic, Carol Reichardt and Judith Bacon; stepchildren, Debbie (Joe) Lewison and Michael (Lisa) Pusch; step-grandchildren, Gabe (Jessica) Lewison, Katrina (Matt) Carlson, Luke (Keri) Lewison, Jerin (Eric) Olson and Jamy (JP) Agrall; and step-great-grandchildren, Alden Lewison, Tegan and Levi Carlson, Arya, Cooper and Landon Lewison, Lilly, Emmy, Peter and Teddy Olson.

Private inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
