Obituary

VIRGINIA – John A. Bertoni, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born May 12, 1942, to George A. and Orpha Alice (Arnold) Bertoni. He married Cindy Beck on August 1, 2019. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Ed; granddaughter, Aimee; Baby Bertoni; and step-son, James Turner.

John was a US Navy veteran serving June 1, 1959 to May 31, 1965. During this time he served on the USS Kitty Hawk. Also, during his time in the service, he was able to see many foreign locations, such as China, Japan, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, the Mediterranean and went around Cape Horn, South America. He also traveled with family to Korea and Germany. John retired in 1998 from CWLP after 35 years of service. He was a member of IBEW Local 193. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going out to eat with his brothers and cousins. And John never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Mark (Lesa) Bertoni, John "Tony" (Sherri) Bertoni and Deana (Bill) Wooldridge, and their mother, Jeraldine; stepson, TJ Turner; eleven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ron (Anita) Bertoni; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, with military honors provided by the Department of Defense – Navy and Inter-Veterans Burial Detail. A Celebration of Life will follow from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the IBEW Local 193 hall at 3150 Wide Track Drive in Springfield. Please deliver all flowers to the IBEW hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail (224 Twin Oaks Drive, Rochester, IL 62563), Camp Butler National Cemetery or IBEW Local 193.
