SPRINGFIELD – John Joseph Cummins, Jr., 89, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, at his home.

He was born March 26, 1933, to John and Della (McDermott) Cummins, Sr. He married Grace Dowdy on June 5, 1954, in North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

John retired from CIPS after 47 years of service. He was a past member of Elks Lodge #158 where he was head of the free throw contest. He was a member of Knights of Columbus #364, American Legion Post 32, and St. Agnes Catholic Church where he had served as assistant basketball coach. He also was in charge of Little League Baseball for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; children, Patricia (Tom) Rickard, Eddie (Joanne) Cummins, Nancy Moore and Kevin (Kim) Cummins; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Patsy (Jim) Herron; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Very Reverend Dan Bergbower officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail and the Department of Defense - Navy
