SPRINGFIELD, IL – John B. Layendecker, 62, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018, at his home.

He was born September 9, 1955, to Bernard and Rita (Devlin) Layendecker. He married Sherri Daubach on March 17, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Jill Buffington.

John was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School, Griffin High School and Quincy Technical College. He started at CILCO as a meter reader and retired from Ameren's Gas Construction Regulation after 38 years of service. John was a member of Aqua Club and Elks Lake Club. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Illini fan. Above all, he loved his family, especially his two granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife Sherri; son, Sean (Megan) Layendecker; two granddaughters, Michaela and Kynleigh; two sisters, Rosemary (Rod) Buffington and Margaret (George) Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bernie.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at noon on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Reverend Stan Summers officiating. Private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Sports team attire is requested and casual attire is required.
