SPRINGFIELD, IL – John Edward Provines, 82, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.

He was born September 9, 1939, to Byron and Birdie Idell (Ramey) Provines. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Byron E. Provines; and his sisters, Marge Devey and Carol Neal.

John was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department, retiring in 1994. In 2010, he relocated to southern California with his daughter. While there, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and summers traveling with his family. He enjoyed bowling, car shows and working on old classic cars. He volunteered at the St. Francis Convent and shelters and food pantries.

He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Patrick) Belous of Indio, CA and Sonia (Bill) Granger of Auburn; grandchildren; Samantha and Zachary Belous, Casey (Trevor) King and Jared Granger; great-grandchildren, Bohdi and Finley King and Braylin Granger; brother, Michael (Bev) Provines of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Hanson officiating.  Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
