SPRINGFIELD, IL - John Edward Underfanger III died peacefully at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois on June 14, 2020.  He was 72.

John was born December 3, 1947 to his parents, John Edward II and Norma Jean (Dodd) Underfanger.  He graduated from Lanphier High School in 1966.  In 1970, he married Lail Alean Grant and the couple had one child.  John was a veteran of the Vietnam war serving as a Navy Seabee.  He was a union carpenter for 25 years, before retiring from the State of Illinois after 25 years of service.  In his spare time, John enjoyed bee keeping, collecting stamps, and gardening.

John was a loving and devoted family man who will be greatly missed by his surviving wife, Lail; son, Jay; brother, Gary; granddaughter, Grace; two nieces and one nephew.
