SPRINGFIELD, IL – Joseph "Joe" E. O'Connell, 54, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020, at his home.

He was born October 5, 1965 to James and Carolyn (Forbes) O'Connell.   He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, James B. O'Connell.

Joe was a cook by trade and managed multiple fast food restaurants, including Rally's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken.  He began cooking as a teen at Vic's Pizza and was recently employed at Wings Etc. and worked part time for Starship Billiards where he took pride in creating new dishes.  He enjoyed playing pool and listening to music, both country and heavy metal.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at family gatherings and sporting events.

He is survived by one son, Joe, a step-daughter, Natalie, a daughter, Alicia; one sister-in-law, Marcia, one niece; several aunts and uncles, including David Forbes who was like a father to him; and many cousins who loved him very much.

Joe was raised Catholic and on his brother's birthday November 4th last, Joe accepted The Lord Jesus as his personal Savior.

A private graveside service will be held for family only.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
