PLEASANT PLAINS – Kay Elaine (Marker Bandy) Peet, 83, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 8, 1940 in Springfield, the only child of David I. and Rachel B. (Thacker) Marker. She married Maynard "Bud" Bandy in 1958 and they had three children together and later divorced. Kay married John "Bob" Peet in 1976; they divorced in 1993. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands; and a son, Troy Charles Bandy.

Kay graduated from Lanphier High School in 1958. She had many fond memories of her 4 years at Lanphier and still stayed in touch with many of her grade school and high school friends. Kay worked as a housewife  and mother, Office Assistant to Congressman Paul Findley, Executive Secretary for the Illinois Jaycees and the Illinois Association of Realtors, Office Manager for ESM Development, Manager of Homestead Place and Homestead at Montvale, and retired from the State of Illinois, House of Representative as a Leadership Legislative Assistant in 2016.

She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly K. (Larry) Hall; a son, Todd L. (Shelly) Bandy, eight grandchildren, Sean Bandy, Ryan (Ashley) Hall, Rachel (Matt) Burdick, Randal (Emily) Hall, Riley Hall, Jonathan (Heather) Bandy, Sarah (Caileb) Beaird and Nicholas Bandy; fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several great-great-grandchildren..

Those that knew Kay found her to be willing to help everyone she knew that would need it. She had great fun getting together with her Lanphier classmates every year at their "Birthday Bash". Kay was an avid Cubs fan, loved reading, working with her flowers, watching TV, doing the daily crossword puzzles/Sudoku and watching her family race and bowl. While working for the House at one time, she cooked once a week so the Representatives could have a home-cooked meal while away from home. She was well known for her homemade chicken and noodles and deviled eggs. She was devoted to her family and her cats and loved all animals.

A memorial gathering will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Goodman officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
