Obituary

Larry Wayne Cantrell, 78, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at his daughter's home surrounded by his family and grandpuppies.

He was born in Ledford, Illinois on November 19, 1942, to Wayne Elmer and Nellie Ruth (Rice) Cantrell. He married Mary Louise Waddell on December 6, 1963. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Judith Lee Talbot and Bonnie Ruth Collins; and his parents-in-law, Henry James and Lena Fern Waddell.

Larry was a US Navy veteran. He was a 1962 graduate of Harrisburg High School. He was employed by Cousin Freds from 1974 – 1982 and was a FedEx courier from 1983 – 2006, retiring after 23 years of service. Larry was a member of the Hoopston Auxiliary Police, Hoopston Lions Club, Vandalia Gideons International, Vandalia Rotary Club, American Legion Post 95, First Baptist Church of Vandalia (now Unity Baptist), Worshipful Master with the Masonic Temperence Lodge #16 and Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, camping and geocaching.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Maryna Ann (Bob) Mitchell; grandchildren, Layne Mykel Roate, Marlena Ann Roate and Kaelyn Ruth Mitchell; and brother, Kenneth Dean Cantrell.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Per Larry's request, his family will conduct a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Unity Baptist Church Route 185, Vandalia, Illinois. The family will greet friends prior to the Celebration of Life beginning at 10 a.m.
