SPRINGFIELD – Larry D. Esper, Sr., 76, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his daughters and granddaughters.
He was born August 19, 1946 to Joseph L. and Ida M. (Dunkel) Esper, Jr. He married Janet Earl on April 22, 1967 in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2022. He was also preceded by his parents; and son-in-law, Jason Parker.
Larry was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired as Sergeant with Illinois State Police after 34 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Tracy (Rodney) Bergae, Melissa Parker, Allison (James) Weedman and Larry (Laura) Esper, Jr.; ten grandchildren, Michael, Gregory, Amanda, Samantha, Jessica, Grant, Jeremy, Eric, Abigail and Harley-Dawn; seven great-grandchildren, Abriella, Madeline, Amelia, Peyton, Alivia, Jayson and Travis; and brother, Gary Esper.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Department of Defense – Navy.
