SHERMAN – Larry L. Perkins, 69, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Houston, Texas on November 1, 1954. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Perkins; and sister, Cheryl Perkins. He married Karen Fletcher on June 15, 2019.
Larry was raised in Austin, Texas and spent most of his adult life in Springfield, Missouri where he was the former owner and operator of Flying Monkeys Motorcycle Shop. He was most recently employed with Landmark Chrysler.
Larry's life passion was motocross racing. He began racing in 1971, winning many championships including in 1974 a GNC Championship in the Houston Astrodome, 1982 World Cup Of BMX, and many, many more and was inducted into the Missouri Motocross Hall of Fame in 2020. Larry also enjoyed racing pigeons for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Michelle (Jeremy) Kritch and Melissa Kritch; mother, Barbara Campbell; step-daughters, Renee (Chris) Clardy and Jen Fletcher; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Rea officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. A luncheon at the Elkhart Christian Church will immediately follow the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: WCIC Radio or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
