JACKSONVILLE – Larry E. Sammon, 92, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital.

He was born in Iowa on June 22, 1934, to Evore W. and Carol (Bailey) Sammon, both of whom preceded him in death.

Larry was a US Marine Corps Veteran. He retired from Madison Mutual Insurance in Edwardsville as an insurance underwriter. He attended Worden Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed fishing, horseracing, going out to eat and to the casinos. He was an avid sports fan and avid animal lover. He loved his poker games with his friends and cherished time spent with his family.

He is survived by his three children, who he proudly raised on his own, Brenda Sammon (Mike Yuschak), Natalie Griffith (William) and Glen Sammon (Sheri); grandchildren, Trisha Tate (Byron) and Shane Jones (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Emma Tate, Bryce Tate, Tilian Jones, Charlie Jones, August Jones and Marnie Jones; and many dear friends, including Sue, Guy, Mary Kay and Marlene.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

An 11 a.m. church service dedicated to Larry will be on November 8, 2026 at the Worden Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at noon.
