SPRINGFIELD – Lawrence Joseph Smith, 88, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at home with his wife, Gloria at his side.

He was born in Springfield on October 30, 1936, to Lawrence William and Elizabeth E. (Parkinson) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Gloria Good on January 24, 1959 in Springfield.

Larry graduated from Lanphier High School and served four years in the US Marine Corps. He retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service. Larry was a skilled artist and enjoyed gardening, especially flowers.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gloria; sons, Lawrence Henry (Lorrie) Smith and Theodore William "Tedd" (Missy) Smith; grandchildren, Benjamin Joseph Smith, Jacob Daniel Smith and Linus Tanabe Smith; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special niece, Jean Ann (Al) Fitts.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Larry Price officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
