Lillian Frances Ashley peacefully passed away at home November 11, 2020, at the age of 93.  She was born July 23, 1927, in Staunton, IL, the daughter of William and Mary ( Prest ) Adam.  Lillian married William H. Ashley in San Anton io, Texas.

Lillian was a 1946 graduate of Staunton Community High School.  She worked for J.L. Hudson Company in Detroit, Michigan before moving to San Antonio, Texas when she married.  Upon returning to Staunton, she was employed at the Dress Factory, S & L Motor Parts and Bahn's SuperValue , retiring after 21 years.  Lillian was also the Archivist for Macoupin County Genealogical Society at the Staunton Public Library.  She enjoyed helping people with their genealogy

Lillian also belonged to two Red Hat Societies— Sassie Lassies and Chantilly Lace—and enjoyed their fellowship.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Staunton, Senior Citizens of Staunton and Mt. Olive and former secretary for Benld AARP #1179.  She loved to travel and went whenever she could.  She was a very nurturing and caring person and will be dearly missed.

Lillian is survived by her son, John (Sherry) Ashley of Port Charlotte, Florida and daughter, Linda (Howard) Tuttle of Springfield, Illinois , several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers—Clarence, Fred, George, Russell, Harold and two sisters—Florence Adam and Shirley Schardan .

Per Lillian's wishes, her remains w ill be cremated. Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.  A private service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Staunton or the Staunton Education Association.
