Loren Shanle, Jr., of Rochester, passed peacefully at Memorial Hospital on Thursday, January 9. He was 72 years old.

Loren grew up in Buffalo, IL with his parents, Loren and Rosabell Shanle. He met his wife of 50 years, Karen Shanle, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He made many friends on his many adventures.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Shanle; his daughter and her family, Erin Shanle, Joshua Martin, Erik Martin, Jenna Martin; his siblings, Sandi Younkin, David Shanle, and Larry Shanle; and extended family.

Loren was funny, charismatic, and never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, handball, traveling, and telling a good joke. After years in the insurance business, he started making wine and opened the Walnut Street Winery in Rochester, IL in 2009. He celebrated life and enjoyed live music, good food, and friendly conversation. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life will be held on May 17 at the former Walnut Street Winery in Rochester, IL.
