Obituary

RIVERTON, IL – Loren A. Yocom, 78, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his home.

He was born November 22, 1944, in Springfield to Elmer and Helen (Erlenbush) Yocom. He married Sharon M. Wahl on February 23, 1986. She preceded him in death in 2010. His daughter, Lori L. Yocom, also preceded him in death in 1999.

Loren retired from the U.S. Army as Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. More than anything, Loren was proud of his service to our country, which included eight tours in Vietnam and one tour in Germany. After those years, he came back to the US and was stationed at New Port News, Virginia, with Sharon and his daughter, Lori. Loren and Sharon eventually located to their home in Riverton in 1999. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He attended Buffalo Christian Church and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He volunteered with the Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue.

Loren is survived by his nieces, Chris Rath and Marsha (Scott) Humphres-Doerr; nephew, Kevin (Wendy) Humphres; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
