JACKSONVILLE, IL – Lori Newberry, 65, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at St. John's Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born February 19, 1953, to Jesse Leroy and Mary (Dyer) Gorham, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Squires; daughter, Sandra Squires; brother, Stanley Gorham; granddaughters, Whynonna Caudle and Addison Steele; best friends, Shirley Sennings and Charlotte King; and grandparents, Ed and Pauline Dyer.
Lorena was formerly employed by a home daycare in Petersburg, a home cleaning service in Springfield and Laidlaw in Springfield. She delivered doorbell dinners for The Prairie Council on Aging. She was a former member of Life Church in Jacksonville and current member of GO Church in Jacksonville.
She loved camping, fishing, swimming, skating, playing BINGO and taking her grandchildren to the park. She enjoyed attending church and watching Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and Cash Cab.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Newberry; children, Yogi (Rodney) Squires and Laura (Chip) Colson-Vavra; grandchildren, Haley Austin, Daryn, Jordan and Jeralyn Laschanzky, Ryan and Brady Steele, Shelby Brewer, Kinsey Newingham, Courtney Colson-Vavra, William Hoxsey, Jack and Cole Quinn; great-grandchildren, Addalynn and Carson Newingham, Nicholas R.J. Steele, Jordan and Jacob Colwell; siblings, Perry Gorham, Glenda (Bob) Gibson, Michele Sedlock and Rob (Frances) Gorham; and best friends, Bobbie Schmidt and Tammy Carver.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Reverend Warren Brosi officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Stuart Park.
