Lucette was born on Jan 25, 1950 in Nancy, France, emigrating to the United States at age 9. She later earned full citizenship status after a rigorous study of, and testing on, U.S history, and government.

She graduated from high school in Wood River, Illinois in 1968, then worked for a time at Owens Illinois Glass factory, before getting hired at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton, Illinois, working with newborn babies. This was her all-time favorite job, which she held until marrying Ted Gaddis of Alton on August 10, 1974.

After marrying and moving to Danville, Illinois, she set up housekeeping and was from then on, a full-time "domestic engineer" as her husband like to put it, handling all the daily needful routines of the home. To this schedule, she added, at various times, short- term part- and full-time employment, including a part-time job from 1983-6 working essentially as a volunteer monitor in Grace Baptist Christian Academy.

She loved decorating the house and had a real gift in that area. Paintings, photographs, dried flower arrangements, wreaths, cheery flowered teapots and cups abounded. And with every holiday, she would dig out the appropriate items for just that day or season and set them in their places.

There is an old saying: Tis the gift to be simple. This doesn't mean simple-minded, but rather, able to be satisfied with simple gifts and blessings. Lucette truly had this gift, finding satisfaction in life's simple pleasures, from taking a long walk in the country, to capturing an unusual display of light thru the trees with her camera, to finding an interestingly colored hawk feather, to leaves that looked like lace because tiny insects had eaten all but the veins, to a really good cup of coffee from Quik 'n EZ. She did not need extravagance to be pleased. How fortunate she was.

She enjoyed long hikes, and bike rides in the country, especially when coming upon some wildlife, especially deer. Other interests through the years have included, rug-hooking, creating stuffed animals, and nature photography,

Her favorite meals out would be at Chinese buffets or Golden Corral. Follow that with a couple of thrift shops and it was a perfect combo.

She had a real sense of humor and could force you to laugh even when you were aggravated or down about something.

She also had an eye for those that are suffering and would sometimes call attention to a person and ask "Are they OK?" in such a way that you knew she wanted more than a verbal answer; you had to go find out.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Her life verse was 2 Timothy 1:12. Her favorite chapter of the Bible was Isaiah 53, which speaks of the death of Jesus to take the penalty for our sins so that we can be forgiven by God if we repent of our sins and take Jesus as our Savior.

She was a wonderful, loving, hardworking, loyal wife.

She was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal and liver cancer in March of this year and departed this world to be with her Lord on August 25.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Gaddis, who will miss her dearly.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2021, at Grace Baptist Church 2812 South Walnut Street, Springfield, Illinois.
