SPRINGFIELD, IL – Marcus E. Randall, 57, passed away February 9 of a heart attack in Chicago. Born June 7, 1961, to William F. and Mary "Lou" (Lashmett) Randall, Marcus married Shari Beckman on August 19, 1995 in Springfield. He was predeceased by his father, William, and step-father, Harold Modglin.

Marc retired from SIU School of Medicine after 30 years as a biomedical researcher in neuropharmacology. He coauthored numerous research publications and won the 2001 Barbara L Armour Researcher of the Year award.

Marc loved researching; genealogy, entomology, and Civil War history. He enjoyed music, played hand drums, had a wonderful tenor voice and was the #1 fan of his children's music. An avid sports fan, Marc loved his Cubs and Bears and liked golf, tennis and bowling. Marc had a quiet, but deep faith; he was a Promise Keeper, and made several mission trips to build homes for people in Mexico. He took a lead in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shari; children, Maxwell Beckman of Chicago, Vanessa and Allison Randall; mother, Lou Modglin; brother, James (Peggy) Modglin; and niece, Lexi (Jordan) Wisch.
