RIVERTON – Marilyn J. Barnard, 90, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024, at St. John's Hospital.

She was born January 9, 1934 to Russell A. and Edna M. (Croxton) Murk. She married J. Herbert "Herb" Barnard in 1956. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb; brother, Buddy Lee Murk; and sister, Alice Glisson.

Marilyn and Herb owned Delicious Donut Shop. She later was employed with the State of Illinois. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life. She always loved spending time with them telling them about her life and all the things she did. She would spend hours teaching them what they could eat out of the wild to survive. She was a devoted Christian and followed her faith.

She is survived by her son, John Russell "Rusty" (Virginia) Barnard; grandchildren, John Russell Barnard, Jr. (Rebecca Obannon), Timothy Ray (Amber) Barnard and Melissa Sue (Sean) Flanagan; great-grandchildren, John Russell Barnard III, Kayleigh Flanagan, Morgan Barnard, Hunter Barnard, Kase Barnard, Declan Flanagan, Cillian Flanagan, Allie Gutierrez and Izik Forrester; and sister, Nina Cycholl.

Visitation will be held 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
